Alexander Commons holds opening

Published April 7th, 2017 by Webadmin

FROM RBJ.NET:

A new affordable housing development on Alexander Street celebrated its completion Wednesday.

The Alexander Commons across from Monroe High School features 60 one-bedroom apartments, with 30 units designated for people coping with mental health disorders and 30 units directed to households with incomes at or below 60 percent of the area median income.

“The need for quality, affordable housing is a critical issue in our community. Studies show a correlation between the quality and stability of a person’s home and their sense of well-being, particularly for those in recovery from mental illness,” said Greg Soehner, East House’s president and CEO.

Each unit includes a living and dining room combo with an open kitchen, closet space, bedroom and bathroom, and central air conditioning. A landscaped, green space on the southeast side of the building provides a recreation space for residents. The building will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The apartment building is the result of a partnership between East House and PathStone and was built with funding from the New York State Office of Mental Health, New York State Homes and Community Renewal through New York State Housing Finance Agency, New York State Medicaid Redesign Team Housing Capital Program, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and Enterprise Community Investment, Inc.

East House and PathStone also worked with Capstone Real Estate Development LLC, Plan Architectural Studio PLC, Stantec Consulting Services Inc., KeyBank N.A. and Harris Beach PLC to complete this project.
